Welcome! If you are reading this, you are interested in getting some AMAZING resources for your AP® Computer Science A classroom. This class is an introductory course in the Java programming language.

I teach this course without a textbook, so everything that is provided here, can be used without supplementation. The only thing I use in my class that is NOT included in this content is the secured AP exam questions.

The following AP® CSA CED Standards are covered in each lesson in the unit.

Lesson 1: Welcome to Java

  • MOD-1.A Call System class methods to generate output to the console.
  • VAR-1.A Create string literals.

Lesson 2: Variables

  • VAR-1.B Identify the most appropriate data type category for a particular specification.
  • VAR-1.C Declare variables of the correct types to represent primitive data.

Lesson 3: User Input

  • Create code to obtain user input in our programs.

Lesson 4: Arithmetic Expressions

  • CON-1.A Evaluate arithmetic expressions in a program code.
  • CON-1.B Evaluate what is stored in a variable as a result of an expression with an assignment statement.

Lesson 6: Numeric Casts

  • CON-1.C Evaluate arithmetic expressions that use casting.
