AP® Statistics Unit 5 – Sampling Distributions

Projects and Activities

Welcome! There are 7 activities/projects in this resource. All of the resources are 100% editable, to modify to fit your classroom needs. The zip folder includes the Word (or PowerPoint) document. The PDF versions are included for your convenience and answer keys and rubrics are included where appropriate.

Here is a brief description of what is included:

Population, Sample, and Sampling with Yellow M&Ms – Students develop an understanding of the differences between the three topics by sampling yellow M&Ms from a population.

Simulation of the Sampling Distribution of a Sample Proportion

An introduction activity to the differences between population, sample, and sampling distributions by using a simulation

Simulation of the Central Limit Theorem

An introduction to the Central Limit Theorem using a die rolling simulation activity.

Unit 5 Circuit Review – Students review all the material in Unit 5 by practicing AP-style problems in a circuit-style review.

The Normal Approximation for the Binomial – This activity takes the students through examples that help them see how for large sample sizes, the binomial probability distribution models a Normal Distribution.

Penny Ages – This activity highlights the relationship between the population distribution, the sample distribution, and the sampling distribution, as students gather data on the ages of pennies.

Unit 5 Review Game – This is a PowerPoint that mimics the classic gameshow Jeopardy. The students play on teams and review questions from Unit 5.
