AP® Statistics Unit 1 – Exploring One Variable Statistics

Projects and Activities

Welcome! There are 8 activities/projects in this resource. All of the resources are 100% editable, to modify to fit your classroom needs. The zip folder includes the Word (or PowerPoint) document. The PDF versions are included for your convenience and answer keys and rubrics are included where appropriate.

Here is a brief description of what is included:

• Exploring Chocolate Candies - Students explore bar graphs and dot plots with fun-size M&Ms bags.

• Are Cookies Dangerous? – Students are asked to explain why some outlandish statistical comments about cookies are false.

• Greedy Train Game – A dice rolling game where students explore the measures of center and spread, and create boxplots.

• What is Normal? – Students examine 4 data sets and develop the Empirical Rule.

• Misleading Graphs Project – Students are asked to find a data set and create a graph and a misleading graph with their data.

• Matching Z-Scores – Students complete this activity by matching a z-score, a standard normal distribution, and the corresponding proportion under the normal curve.

• Normal Calculations Circuit – Students work through normal calculations while checking their answers in a circuit-style activity.

• Unit 1 Review Circuit – Students would through multiple choice problems in Unit 1 while checking their answers in a circuit-style activity.
